Jacobs Harp Academy

Academy faculty

Elzbieta Szmyt, a native of Poland, is Professor of Music and Chair of the Harp Department at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She has performed numerous recitals and taught master classes in North America, Europe and Asia. Szmyt holds graduate degrees from the Chopin Academy of Music, Warsaw University and Indiana University.

Fan-Fen Tai, a native of Taiwan, is an adjunct faculty at Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. She holds degrees from Indiana University (D.M), the University of Arizona and Taipei National University of Arts.  Tai has won numerous competitions and is avid chamber musician who formed the harp and violin duo, BloomingDuo.

Adult harp lessons

Dates: January 16 - April 28, 2023

Eligibility: Students of any age or musical experience are welcome. 

Offerings: Receive one private lesson per week and participate in group masterclasses.

Format: In-person or virtual

How to apply

  1. Application process: To apply, complete the online registration. Those interested in Pre-College Harp must schedule an interview prior to enrolling. 
  2. Instrument rental: A limited number of rental harps are available at Vanderbilt Music Company.
  3. Payment: Accepting payment via credit card or check. Please do not send checks or any other forms of payment to the Office of Jacobs Academy.
