IU Contemporary Dance Summer Intensive

Dates: June 21 - 27, 2026

Deepen your skills in the performance of contemporary dance styles and forms including Jazz, Tap, African Contemporary and Contemporary Dance Repertory works with world renowned dance faculty in the IU Contemporary Dance Program featuring Stafford Berry, Robert Burden, Beatrice Capote and Selene Carter, with leading  guest artists working in the present contemporary dance world. For intermediate to advanced level high school aged dance students (must have completed 8th grade by summer 2026).

Faculty

Beatrice Capote

Beatrice Capote currently serves as an associate professor of Contemporary Dance at Indiana University.

Selene B.  Carter

Selene Carter currently serves as Associate Chair of the Theatre and Dance Department at Indiana University.

Stafford C. Berry, Jr.

Stafford C. Berry, Jr. currently serves as the Director of the African American Dance Company and Professor of Practice in both Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance and African American and African Diaspora Studies at Indiana University.

Robert F. Burden Jr.

Robert F. Burden Jr. currently serves as a visiting assistant professor of dance at Indiana University.

2026 Fees and Deadlines

 Fees:

Tuition:

  • $1000
    • A $100 non-refundable registration fee is due at registration (credited towards the overall cost of tuition)

Housing (optional, includes meals):

  • $550
    • The posted rate covers housing from check-in on Sunday June 21 to check-out on Saturday June 27. 

*Included in the cost of housing is a Linen Package (including pillowcase, top and bottom sheet, two washcloths and towels; blankets and pillows available upon request)

Commuter Meal Plan (optional, for dancers not residing in the dorms, only includes a program-provided daily lunch)

    • Commuter Meal Plan: $115

Deadlines:

  • Registration and Payment Due: May 1, 2026
  • Participant Forms Due: May 18, 2026

How to Apply

REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER 2026 WILL OPEN IN DECEMBER 2025

  1. Eligibility: Participants must be rising 9th graders - age 18.
  2. Registration: Complete the online registration form and pay the Non-Refundable Registration Fee ($100) and tuition.
    • If you do not wish to pay tuition in full at the time of initial registration, please do not select the tuition option prior to completing registration, and select only the registration fee. Please be aware that tuition must be paid in full by the payment deadline in order to participate in the program.
    • Save your login information so you can easily go back to edit your registration/tuition payment.

Once you have completed the previous steps, please submit the Participant Agreement Form
