In Young Winds, we provide small-group lessons and full band experience to elementary and middle school-age students who have already begun playing woodwind, brass, string (upright) bass, or percussion instruments. We supplement the instruction your child receives in school band programs, strengthening their musicianship in a safe and positive environment.
Brian Shaw is Assistant Professor in the Jacobs music education department, where he works with the next generation of music teachers. He previously taught at Ohio State University, and was an award-winning music teacher and administrator in Indiana and Illinois. He is excited to welcome young musicians to IU!
Paul Hunt is an Associate Instructor and PhD student in music education at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Butler University, as well as a Master of Science in Music Education from Indiana University. Before pursuing doctoral work in music education, Paul was a professional trumpeter and middle school band director in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Meeting schedule: Program meetings to take place weekly on Saturday mornings, 9-11AM.
