Academy faculty

Brian Shaw is Assistant Professor in the Jacobs music education department, where he works with the next generation of music teachers. He previously taught at Ohio State University, and was an award-winning music teacher and administrator in Indiana and Illinois. He is excited to welcome young musicians to IU!

Chase Remsburg is a Ph.D. student in music education at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Shepherd University and a Master of Music Education from the University of Florida. Before pursuing doctoral study, Chase worked as a public-school orchestra teacher in Maryland and maintained an active performing career as a saxophonist. His current research explores the intersections of music, technology, and artificial intelligence in music education.

Fees and deadlines

Tuition

  • Tuition: $75
    • $25 non-refundable enrollment deposit due at registration (credited towards tuition). If you do not wish to pay tuition in full at the time of initial registration, please do not select the tuition option prior to completing registration, however tuition must be paid in full by the payment deadline in order to participate in the program.

Deadlines

  • Financial Aid: January 5, 2026
  • Registration and payment: January 30, 2026

Payment must be completed by the first rehearsal in order to participate

Financial Aid

  1. Those looking to apply for need-based financial aid should indicate their intent to do so on their program registration form.
  2. The family must complete the Financial Aid application and submit the required supporting documents to the Jacobs Academy Office via a provided secure upload link. 
  3. The Jacobs Academy Coordinator will contact you if further supporting documentation is needed for the committee review.

*Please be aware that we cannot guarantee acceptance of late applications for financial aid.

How to Apply

  1. Registration: Complete the online registration form. No auditions are required for enrollment. Late registrations may be accepted pending space availability.
  2. Payment: Accepting payment via credit card or check. Please do not send checks or any other forms of payment to the Office of Jacobs Academy.
