The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Jazz Band Director Workshop is an opportunity for pre-college teachers to develop their skills in directing a jazz band and growing the jazz program in their school. All participants will be adults. Topics will include jazz history and listening, programming for jazz ensembles, rhythm section techniques, rehearsal techniques, and more. Participants are encouraged to play in a rehearsal jazz band as part of the workshop.

Fees & deadlines

Fees 

  • Tuition – $550
  • Room (Spruce dormitory, adult single) – $154.50 for three nights or $51.50 per night
  • Board – $120 inclusive or meals can be purchased individually

Deadlines 

  • Deadlines for Summer 2025 will be announced in the Fall of 2024

How to apply

  1. Eligibility: Middle school and high school jazz band directors.
  2. Application process: To apply, please complete the online registration form.
  3. Payment: Accepting payment via credit card or check. Payment must be remitted to IU Conferences as iuconfs@iu.edu
