Ballet Summer Intensive

The outstanding faculty of the Jacobs School of Music Ballet Department are once again offering a summer intensive that will challenge your technique, hone your artistic skill, and give you the opportunity to experience the most prestigious university ballet program in the nation:

The Ballet Summer Intensive, for students ages 13 to 18-years, is a program for growth and learning. It includes two 1-week sessions that can be taken together or separately, with classes scheduled Monday through Friday from 9AM-5PM. Not only will dancers experience the rigor of the profession while they prepare repertoire for performance, they will be doing so at one of the most physically intensive summer sessions in the nation! Dancers perform neoclassical and classical repertoire, as well as new works choreographed on them each week by esteemed faculty choreographers. A dorm and meal plan option adds to the university experience.

The program offers classes in technique, pointe, variations, conditioning, contemporary and modern ballet, music appreciation, ballet history, and nutrition. Students will also have the opportunity to be choreographed on and present a small studio showing each Saturday for parents and friends near and far.

Program requirements

All dancers interested in the Ballet Summer Intensive must submit a filmed recording of a variation on pointe OR eight relevés on pointe in a held position to swroth@iu.edu as a prescreening for admission. Please send a private YouTube link or drive link with permission for viewing enabled. If you are cleared for admission to the program, you will receive a link to register.

Our program is officially full for the 2025 Ballet Summer Intensive. Our application information should be posted by January 1, 2026. If you are interested in visiting and touring our department at any point in time during the year, please email swroth@iu.edu.

Single Session: $1000
Both Sessions: $2000
- $100 non-refundable enrollment deposit due at registration (credited towards tuition). If you do not wish to pay tuition in full at the time of initial registration, please do not select the tuition option prior to completing registration, however tuition must be paid in full by the payment deadline in order to participate in the program.

OPTIONAL: Housing

On-campus housing is available in University Halls of Residence. Ballet Summer Intensive participants will be residing in the lovely Spruce Hall. Included in the cost of housing is a Linen Package (incl. pillowcase, top and bottom sheet, two washcloths and towels; blankets available upon request) and Meal Plan:

Single session housing: $500
Both session housing: $1000

OPTIONAL: Commuter Meal Plan

This includes a program-provided daily lunch.

Commuter meal plan: $50

How to apply

Eligibility: Participants must be 13 to 18-years of age.
Application process: To apply, contact Sarah Wroth at swroth@iu.edu and submit prescreening requirements.If you are accepted she will send you the online registration form to complete. Tuition must be paid in full in order to secure spot in program.
