Academy faculty

Otis Murphy is professor of music in saxophone at the Jacobs School of Music, joining faculty 2001. He is in great demand as an international soloist and clinician, having performed in some 20 countries worldwide across four continents.

Haruko Murphy received the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Piano Performance, both with Highest Distinction, from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying with Distinguished Professor Menahem Pressler. She performs actively as a collaborative pianist and chamber musician, specializing in the repertoire of the classical saxophone.

David Bayard is a graduate student at the Jacobs School of Music, studying saxophone performance with Dr. Otis Murphy. David completed his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in saxophone performance at the Jacobs School of Music. Currently, he is the soprano saxophonist of the award-winning Soma Quartet.

Arthur Liang made his solo debut recital at the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan in January 2019. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Music in Saxophone Performance at the Jacobs School of Music in Indiana University, Arthur also earned a Master of Music Degree and Performer Diploma from the Jacobs School of Music.

Originally from Palisade, Colorado, Paul Lorenz is pursuing a Doctor of Music in Saxophone at the Jacobs School of Music in the award-winning Soma Quartet. He holds degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Audition requirements

Interested applicants should expect to prepare and submit the following:

  • 5-minute technical excerpt; either solo or etude
  • 5-minute lyrical excerpt of the applicant's choosing

  2. Application process: To apply, complete the online registration form and pay only the Non-Refundable Registration Fee - $70. Late applications accepted pending available space.
